Job Purpose The controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and compressive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
What You'll Do Management Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
Manage outsourced functions.
Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives.
Direct and coordinate the daily functions of the accounting department.
Transactions Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
Ensure that accounts receivable is collected promptly.
Ensure that payroll and related payroll taxes are processed timely.
Ensure that fixed asset purchases are accounted for properly and maintain documentation and depreciation records for same.
Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed.
Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
Maintain the chart of accounts.
Maintain an orderly accounting filling system.
Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
Reporting Issue timely and complete financial statements and related documents.
Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report.
Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of accounting personnel.
Manage the production of budgets and forecasts when needed.
Calculate variances from historical data and report significant issues to management.
Provide for a system of management cost reports.
Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
Compliance Coordinate the provisions of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax/report filings.
Additional accountabilities as assigned by the CFO and Company ownership.
What You'll Bring Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, State and local requirements regarding financial records.
Ability to work in a fact pace, high-stress environment.
Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with team members, other members of management and executives.
Extensive knowledge of accounting theory, principals, and procedures.
Solid understanding of change management principles.
Ability to work on multiple projects at one time, handle deadlines and interruptions in the work process while ensuring work is complete and accurate.
Ability to smoothly handle a variety of situations and problems that may arise, sometimes serval at a time, and either solve them or work with others involved to come to cooperative resolution.
Excellent organizational and decision making/problem solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively disseminate information.
Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work accurately and quickly in a fact pace, high-stressed environment.
