*Position Overview:*
This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and building injection molds, along with inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance and repairs on over 200 different molds.
Molds vary from single cavity up to 32 cavity most of which have hot runner systems.
The Mold Maker supports operations by ensuring the molds are in optimal condition which is critical for minimizing mold downtime and defects.
*Essential Job Responsibilities:*
* Read blueprints and specifications to understand mold tooling designs
* Reviews and assess wear and damage on molds
* Disassembly, repair and reassembly of molds and hot runner systems
* Manufactures, alters, repairs, maintains and replaces mold components (e.
g.
core pins, ejector pins, springs, etc.
)
* Works to very close tolerances (+/- 0.
0001”)
* Operates various tools and machinery (i.
e.
mills, lathes, surface grinders, EDM, etc.
) in the repair and/or production of molds
* Machines new parts to replace worn or broken sections
* Maintains maintenance logs and repair documentation
* Identifies opportunities for improvements in mold design, maintenance processes, etc.
* Assists with new mold tryouts, startups, and process validations
* Keeps Tool Room Supervisor informed of status with tool problems
* Follows safety rules and keeps work area in clean and orderly condition
* Performs other duties as assigned
*Skills and Experience:*
* High school diploma or GED required
* 10+ years’ experience on the shop floor as highly skilled mold maker for high precision, multi cavity plastic injection molds
* Proven experience with hot runner systems
* Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
* Knowledge and proven experience operating manual mills, lathe, surface grinders, laser welders, CNC, EDM, etc.
* Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
* Ability to work in high production environment while responding quickly and effectively under pressure, changing priorities and tight timelines/deadlines
* Knowledge of SolidWorks a plus
*Physical requirements/working conditions*
* Stands, sits, walks, bends, twists, squats, stretches and reaches and crawls
* May be exposed to loud noise and works in close proximity to moving mechanical parts
* Works daily with cleaning chemicals such as WD40 and Acetone
* Safely works with potentially carcinogenic materials such as Beryllium Copper
* Seasonal weather variations may result in exposure to hot or cold conditions, particularly in the shipping/warehouse areas where open doors allow exposure to prevailing weather conditions
* May occasionally climb steps, ladders, scaffolds, etc.
* May lift and carry up to 50-150 pounds with the assistance of a hand truck
* Performs various fine grasping movements; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, phone and/or other equipment
