454 468 Big Block Chevy DYNO PROVEN 543hp/573tq - $10,500 (Stockton)

Here we have a fresh 454/468 (454ci + .
060 bore = 468ci).
This engine was brought in by a customer for a freshen up.
It originally had a set of forged TRW 9.
50-1 compression pistons, a Comp Cams solid roller cam, 781 oval port heads, and an Edelbrock Victor Jr intake.
I kept the TRW pistons, but tossed the solid roller cam for a milder hydraulic roller cam that I spec'd out for this combo, and added Comp Cams hydraulic roller lifters.
I went through the 781 heads by adding stainless steel valves, unshrouding the intake and exhaust valves, and adding new springs, locks and retainers.
I got the compression up to 10.
00-1, and then bolted on the original Edelbrock Victor Jr intake.
Before that was done, I powdercoated the intake and valve covers gloss black, and then painted the block and heads gloss black as well to give it its sinister look, which was dubbed "Darth Vader".
Vader was then bolted onto the dyno, where he made an impressive 543hp @ 5500rpm and 573ftlbs torque @ 4200/4300rpm.
What is more impressive, is that it made over 550ftlbs torque from 2500rpm all the way to 5000rpm!! Talk about a torque curve as flat as Texas! This is a proven combination, with proven parts, that can be duplicated VERY easily.
Just think, you can have an engine that makes MORE power than a GM crate 502ci/502hp engine (Jegs $12,500.
00 + tax) for substantially LESS money!! If you want a little more power, aluminum heads can be added which will add 30-40hp.
I will be building an engine just like this, with aluminum heads, so I can see the results of that modification real soon! Keep up on the B.
