85Under direction, performs a variety of activities involved in the overall administrative, budgetary, accounting and personnel management activities of a designated County department or division; coordinates and organizes office and business activities and flow of communications and information to ensure effective and efficient activities; may supervise, train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; and does other related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents of this classification are typically responsible for departmental administrative activities.
Positions are allocated based upon the complexity of departmental activities, budget, business activities and supervisory responsibilities.
Administrative Services Officer IThis classification is the entry-level position.
Incumbents work under supervision and perform less complex administrative assignments.
They may become eligible for promotion to the Administrative Services Officer II level based upon demonstration of progressively responsible job assignment and performance, independence of action, decision-making and attainment of required experience and/or education.
Administrative Services Officer IIThis classification is the journey-level position.
Incumbents are typically assigned to perform complex administrative assignments under general supervision in large or mid-sized departments.
This class is distinguished from the Administrative Services Officer I in that the Administrative Services Officer II works more independently, has responsibility for significant departmental projects and activities, and is able to support a variety of functions.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES May assist in the development and preparation of the annual budget for the assigned department;Provides technical information and assistance to the department head concerning programs and operations, needs, and issues;Assists in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs;Maintains current knowledge of laws, codes, rules, and regulations related to department operations;Prepares and maintains a variety of narrative, financial and statistical records, reports, and files;Monitors and assess department programs, services and operations and makes recommendations for improvement;Administers departmental programs, assignments, and training;Communicates with staff and others to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns related to the assigned activities of the department.
Attends and conducts a variety of meetings;Prepares correspondence to various departments within the County and to various outside agencies;Performs research using available data and by contacting various outside agencies; andConducts inventories, develops and analyzes variance reports related to inventories.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
